# Concentric Donut chart in tableau

Please let me know how we can make the concentric donut chart with multiple measure ( As the circle for one measure is over the circle of another measure)

Hi Neeru,

Have a look on these posts:

there are 3 different measures with blue, green and orange color and center grey circle is total of 3 fields. Please look into the exact requirement. Attached image.

Hi Neeru,

Now I got you! To be able to do that you will have to use the technique explained on Bora Beran's post (Radial treemaps & bar charts in Tableau « Bora Beran), as in your case is simpler than the one he presented by Bora, you can simplify the data source to look just like this:

Measure Name (Type) Measure Value (Cost) Direct 500 Indirect 700 Taxes 200

As you can see, you might have to change your data a little in order to have your measures values in one column and you measure names in another. So by using a simple custom SQL like the one below, densification (Data Densification - An Intro?? ) and some nested table calculations (with trigonometry) , you will be able to achieve what you want as I did in the attached workbook.

Custom SQL:

SELECT ['Costs Sample\$'].[Measure Name (Type)] AS [Type],

['Costs Sample\$'].[Measure Value (Cost)] AS [Cost],

1 AS Path

FROM ['Costs Sample\$']

UNION ALL

SELECT ['Costs Sample\$'].[Measure Name (Type)] AS [Type],

['Costs Sample\$'].[Measure Value (Cost)] AS [Cost],

203 AS Path

FROM ['Costs Sample\$']

Yes, you need some advanced stuff, but isn't that fun? :-)

Best,

Hil

Hi Hil,

Thanks for the response. But my data is attached with the salesforce platform not SQL. So, I need to do all the calcuation in Tableau calculated fields.

Hi Hil,

One more query to  ask from this link that you have given i.e I don't have "level" and "path" fields in my data so, would it be necessary to add these fields as an extra fields in data or there is an other way also to do it?

Also i have to show 3 different measure fields as 3 different level. So, please guide for that also.

Hi Neeru,

In your use case you will only need the "Path" field, but you don't need to add this to your data (which is good), the way here has to go through custom SQL (which is bad in your case, as you are using Salesforce). If you are willing this badly enough, you may consider to extract it to another data source that supports custom SQL.

The different levels will be covered by the field "Bar Level".

Best,

Hil
