# Month-Over-Month Difference For Each Column

Hi, this may have already been discussed, but I'm having trouble finding the forum for it.

I'm currently trying to create a view that has MoM % Difference for each individual metric (column) and for each company (row). Please forgive my horrible mouse writing skills in the image below. Is there a set of parameters or calculated fields that could make this possible?

So ideally, the table would read like:

Company A: Orders; MoM % Diff in Orders; Sales; MoM % Diff in Sales...

Company B: Orders; MoM % Diff in Orders; Sales; MoM % Diff in Sales...

Company C: Orders; MoM % Diff in Orders; Sales; MoM % Diff in Sales...

Thanks for any and all help!

Ryan

Since you're using measure values, you should create a calculated field for each 'MoM' calculation and add it into the appropriate place in your measure values list.

Is your actual data using a hardcoded month like 'April' in your example or do you have a real date field to reference?

Hi Tom!

The data is in a real date field. Hopefully that doesn't have too drastic of an impact on how it would be calculated.

Thanks!

The real date field is much more helpful.

Start with this example and build out a calculated field for one of your measures- Month Over Month Difference As a Percentage | Tableau Software, This approach utilizes Tableau Calculations.

Once you've nailed it, follow the same method to calculate MoM for each of the remaining metrics.

Thanks so much, Tom!

Now to figure out how to condition those columns for coloring....

Not impossible, but there are some challenges. There's a bunch of advice here which is still relevant - Older But Still Useful – Conditional Formatting | Drawing with Numbers
