    Available Resources Graph

    Frederick Birchall

      Hello,

I've been using Tableau for a couple of weeks now and I'm struggling to get a viewpoint I need. I have a database of products and I have the date of hire and the date of return, with this I would like to create a chart that shows over a period of time how many resources are being used each day.

For example if we have 7 products available and one is hired Monday until Wednesday and a second Tuesday until Friday then the table will look like:

      MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaySunday

      On Hire

      1221100
      Available7777777
      Utilisation14%28%28%14%14%0%0%

From this the table I can graphically represent it using an area chart.

Does anybody know if this is possible and if so then how?

      Many thanks,

      Fred

          Hi Frederick,

Please see the attached workbook. A line would also work well for this time series, however I've plotted it as an area chart per your requirement.

FYI I shaped your data as follows:

          DayOn Hire Available
          Monday17
          Tuesday27
          Wednesday27
          Thursday17
          Friday17
          Saturday07
          Sunday0

          7

            Hello Tina,

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately I do not have the data in that format, my data looks like the following:

            ProductPickup DateReturn Date
            A16th May 2016

            23rd May 2016

            A18th May 201620th May 2016
            A17th May 201619th May 2016

With this data I need to calculate somehow the following table:

            ProductDateUnits On Hire
            A16th May 20161

            A

            17th May 20162
            A18th May 20163
            A19th May 20163
            A20th May 20162
            A21st May 20161
            A22nd May 20161
            A23rd May 20161

            Many thanks,

            Fred
