This KB article has detailed instructions on how to connect to the Postgres database and how to change password, too.
The commands needed are
- tabadmin dbpass --username readonly <password>
- tabadmin restart
we are unable to retrieve data from postgres (some tables only), Reaming all tables are working fine. so how can we retrieve data from that tables or how to change permissions. how to take back to SQL. could you please suggest on this.
Which username are you using to connect to the postgres db ? tableau or readonly ? please use ONLY the readonly user.
the tableau user has a limitation on the number of tables it has access to.
Also, queries can be written only after you understand the datamodel of the "workbook" database in postgres. You can study the datamodel from this article.
Once done, clear out your requirements in the form of questions. What would you want to know from the postgres db ? Get those questions first, and then you can join one table to another to get your required answers.
Otherwise, once you go through the datamodel and have your questions ready, please post them here. I will try to help you start off with some basic queries.
If you to generate the new password for postgre then you need to use this command.
tabadmin regenerate_internal_tokens --passwords
If you need more information regarding that look into this :Regenerate a Password for the Tableau Server PostgreSQL Database (Repository)
