How do I filter and count the number of times a value is selected

    Renee Palardy

I have 5 columns that have the same list of values in each.  I want to be able to use one filter for all 5 fields and then in my reporting I only want to count the record once even if that same value was used in each field.

One way to solve this is using parameters.

Let's assume your Car Type columns are called Car Type 1, Car Type 2, Car Type 3, etc. Create a Parameter called [Selected Car Type] and add the list of possible values (you can add them using the "Add From Field..." button in the Parameter dialog). Then create a Calculated Field called "Car Type Filter" which will return True if any of the 5 columns match the selected value in the Parameter:

[Selected Car Type] = [Car Type 1] OR

[Selected Car Type] = [Car Type 2] OR

[Selected Car Type] = [Car Type 3] OR

[Selected Car Type] = [Car Type 4] OR

[Selected Car Type] = [Car Type 5]

Drop this calculated field on filters, show your Parameter's control and you should be able to filter any matching column.
