Thanks for your reply, but as mentioned above our requirement is different - actually what is required is to
create a new dimension on the fly using the existing dimension with attributes country, city, organization.
Then user would select 3 cities of a country e.g. Oxford, Cambridge and London and also user can deselect few
organization falling under these cities, and this selection should be named as a new dimension "Golden
Triangle". This new dimension should be available for use across multiple worksheets/dashboards.
We also want to print a line on map connecting these cities of this new dimension. How can we incorporate this line on a map?
Can anyone help with your suggestions please..
Thanks in advance!
If possible, can you provide an example workbook? This would go a long way in us helping to provide you a solution.
That being said, I'm not sure if what you are asking is going to be possible in the current version of Tableau (If I am understanding your req correctly).
In order to create this "New Dimension" on the fly using multiple values, you would need a Multi Valued Parameter (A feature currently not implemented) that could be used in a Calculated Field.
However, if the goal is to simply limit the results in other vizzes, than using a Database Filter or Dashboard Actions (Depending on the setup) should work for you.
It just comes down to what the end goal is. If there isn't a direct solution, there maybe a workaround, but we need more details before we can proceed.
Thanks for your reply. Enclosed herewith a screenshot of example workbook using sample AdventureWorksDW2012 database for your reference -
We have created a Group ‘US City Group’ consisting of Cities ‘Ballard’,’Billings’,’Burbank’,’Sparks’ which became an additional Dimension ‘US City Group’. Our requirements are:
- We need two attributes to be grouped together namely city + customer. So user should be able to select above mentioned cities and few customers (not all) with these cities together. This combination of city + customer should be available as separate dimension with two attributes (and not one). So that user can select this new custom dimension say ‘Dim US City Group’ which has two attributes city and customer.
- This dimension should only have those city + customer we have selected. All other cities should not be present or should be treated as ‘Other’ attribute value. We should be able to filter data for this city + customer i.e. only this city + customer should be visible and all other cities should be excluded from this dimension.
Could you please help with your suggestions...
Thanks in advance!
