    Live connection

If we are using live database connection and the records in the underlying tables gets updated. Will the newly updated records get captured in Tableau desktop without the manual process of Right Click and Refresh. Please suggest.

          Hi Karan,

As per my knowledge in Tableau, though the underlying tables are updated in the LIVE connection, the records are get captured by tableau desktop by manual process only.

              Hey Karan,

Sorry for wrong answer. Actually, when we connect live to tableau through the EXCEL then refresh have to be done manualy. But, if the data is taken from any database and connected live to tableau then updated data will automatically shown up in tableau. As here we use the password for connection to be build everytime we connect to data.

              Regards,

a stipulated time for data refresh.

                  Hey Karan,

When data is connected from database to tableau, a temporary table is created in the database itself from where connection is done to tableau. This is because direct tables connection may lock the tables and would not allow to update them.

If we are already in connection with tables i.e., working on tableau with database connected to it. Then, update in tables would not reflect any change in tableau until we do manual refresh. This is because of temporary table (created at time of connection)at database.

If tableau is closed and the tables are then updated. Then, when we start to work in tableau then it will get updated automatically. This is done by queries that are sent to the database to retrieve and update.

                  Regards,
