Tableau have written a trouble shooting guide to help with subscription >> Troubleshoot Subscriptions
The obvious things -
- have you (or anyone) changed anything? (file paths, SMTP clients, file names, batch files etc.)
- does restarting the server fix it?
- does it affect every subscriber or just one?
I'm going to move this discussion to Server Admin in the hope it gets more views/ answers there.
One of my users had this issue. Upon checking the TS logs (it was in one of the Backgrounder logs) I saw this:
Caused by: com.tableausoftware.nativeapi.dll.TableauException: Unable to connect to the file "C:/Users/.../AppData/Local/Temp/TableauTemp/1llrqdm02f98j80zxc33q1kc8tyl/Data/CapEx_NRE_Tracking 2/CapitalNRE_Tableau.xlsx". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.
Instead of using a UNC file path to connect to the Excel data source they pointed to the file on their hard drive (which TS views as a file on its hard drive which doesn't exist) in a temp folder (double-DOH!).
The lesson: Make sure the published workbook is able to connect to all data sources.
