If you need to connect to Oracle from the server, yes, you need to install

I agree with Alexander.
You definitely don't need it!
We work in an Oracle environment and I have just completed a clean install of Tableau 9 on a Windows 2012 R2 server for upgrade testing. After setting a TNS_ADMIN setting in Windows environment variables then everything just works! Tableau has Oracle access built in. Best not to install Oracle client as it's one more variable on the server you can do without, you need to upgrade it every time Oracle release a new version.
That is really good to know!
