Are you talking about Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server? Neither support ftp, but a network-mounted (share) drive might be used for this.
Could you clarify what you are looking to do, and why? Then hopefully we will have some suggestions for you.
Yes i am talking about Tableau Desktop. We wanted to load account balances every day for all companies and will extract data from ERP and want to load every day say 5 PM PST
Well, Tableau Desktop is meant to be operated by humans, so if you have Desktop open and the Excel has been updated, then you right-click on your Data Source and select "Refresh". You can do that every day at 5:00 PM if you wish to do so.
But there is no code within Tableau Desktop that is going to automatically Refresh the connection for you. That's something that Tableau Server can do, but for a file, the file would have to be in a place where the Server can access it. (The Server cannot hack into your personal Desktop machine to read a file there.)
