I do this all the time.
I have images that are just Buttons.
Just add the image as a shape through a worksheet. And you an give the worksheet an action in the dashboard.
does that make sense?
In dashboard image container will not work in navigation. If string not works then create calc as
Use the 0 only in field.
drag this calc into shapes and select images and use in dashboard.

How to avoid zero then, do we need to do some formatting stuff. I see 0 (zero) text over there.
Have a look at the attached workbook that I've created for you here. I imagine this is something like what you want to achieve.
The main Links Page has three blue boxes in it, each of these is an individual worksheet made to look like a button of sorts. I have added a unique action to each of them that will bring you to the appropriate page in the workbook.
