Use of 'application.js' in vizqlserver/public/v_82001409251717/javascripts folder.

After installing Tableau Server v.8.2, I could see 'application.js' in /Tableau/Tableau Server/8.2/vizqlserver/public/v_82001409251717/javascripts directory. This is an EMPTY file and has a small description which says,

// Place your application-specific JavaScript functions and classes here

// This file is automatically included by javascript_include_tag :defaults

So I simply added alert('Hi') in it. When I viewed the report in browser, I couldn't see the alert message. Moreover in Firefox debugger, I couldn't see 'application.js' being loaded.

We have a requirement to add application specific custom JS functions. I thought 'applicaiton.js' is the right place to go with as it is loaded automatically (as per the description).

      Couple of questions:

      1) Is there any use of application.js?

      2) Is there a place where I could include my custom JS file, so that tableau would load it automatically as part of bootstrapping?

Please guide me in this regard. I am very new to Tableau.
