As part of the Finance organization, the Business Systems team works closely with functional business users to identify and deliver reporting and analytics to help make data analysis faster and easier, enabling associates at every level to make more informed decisions on the internal operations of the company. The team utilizes a variety of information management tools to develop and deploy data, reporting, analysis, and integration services to corporate and field customers.
The Sr. Tableau Developer will be the business owner of the Tableau platform at Staples. The associate will use their Tableau experience to coach other Tableau users across the organization in achieving their objectives. This person will also own the Tableau community at Staples and its connection to the external Tableau community. The power of the tool is in the number of users, and creating the support and information network across Staples so that we achieve the most out of our Tableau investment is important. Enabling self-service Business Intelligence is the key.
Tableau Expert Responsibilities:
Be an expert in the programming systems used. Each application could source from multiple sources, including Oracle databases, SQL Server, MS Access, DB2, Excel, flat files, and CSV. The integration of all of this data while applying the appropriate business logic is the great value.
This function is responsible for the Staples Tableau platform support across the enterprise. Responsibility for platform management including roadmaps, best practices, release mangement and design authority.
Assist our Business Partners to develop, maintain and support reports, dashboards, and scorecards using self-service BI tools such as Tableau and Alteryx
Provide ad-hoc analysis to address specific business questions from stakeholder groups.
Gain knowledge of the multitude of databases utilized by the organization, from both a business and technical perspective
Bridge the gap between business and technology. Take a business thought, and turn it into reality.
Tableau Community Responsibilities:
Act as the central point of Tableau at Staples.
- Manage our user and server-based licensing structure.
- Manage training plan for Tableau at Staples.
Develop and maintain forums within Staples to enable self-service analystics.
Train/coach our internal department developers on Tableau and become the SME for the tool within Business Systems.
Bachelor's Degree in an analytical field (math, engineering, finance, industrial engineering, applied economics, accounting, computer science or other related field).
1 year of experience with Tableau.
3 years of experience with data extration / ETL tools.
3 years of experience with MS Access.
5 years of development experience with BI Tools (Tableau, MicroStrategy, Qlikview, Cognos, Business Objects, Hyperion Essbase)
2 years of orgainizing and leading large user community meetings.
Basic HTML/CSS website development skills.
Experience communicating complex topics clearly and effectively to a non-analytical audience.
Demonstrated ability to generate actionable insight out of data.
Thrive on delivering applications and analysis quickly, accurately, and always exceeding customer expectations.
Ability to translate business processes into technical solutions.
Knowledge of statistical approaches and methods
Data presentation experience.
Big data technology experience (e.g. hadoop).
Enthusiasm for making a positive impact to the company.
