When you say "doubles", do you mean that the number of dots in the password field gets longer after you click "Sign In"? If so, that's just because Tableau (well, the browser) is obscuring the length of the password you typed. That's normal.
As for the login error itself, it's generally pretty accurate. I.e. the authentication information is probably wrong, at least as far as Tableau Server can tell.
If in a bind, you could try resetting the admin password using "tabadmin -reset", per Resetting the Administrator Password or Account | Tableau Software.
If you're not an admin, contact the admin to see why you might be getting this auth error.
