# Calculate performance difference between two custom time periods

Hello. I am trying to compute the difference in performance of a KPI (customer satisfaction) between two custom time periods.

Time Period 1 is from Aug. 15, 2014 to Aug. 25, 2014 and Time Period 2 is from Sept. 1, 2014 to Sept 12, 2014. For each of my employees, I would like to calculate the difference in their customer satisfaction scores between these two periods within the same worksheet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The shape/layout of your data will completely determine how to accomplish this. Please read this recent post:

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your reply. I posted the data I am working with in a packaged Tableau workbook - please see attachment. There are three columns: Agent_ID (employee), CAE_Score (customer satisfaction KPI), and Date. There are multiple records for each agent with each record signifying a different date as well as their CAE_Score for that date. Let's say the two time periods that I want to compare are: Time Period 1 (Sept. 3, 2014-Sept. 5, 2014) and Time Period 2 (Oct. 6, 2014-Oct. 10, 2014). There could be cases where some agents might not have data for a particular time period, which is fine - I am OK indicating this will a null or whatever is most easy... My goal is to be able to view the average CAE score for each of these two time periods side by side and create an additional column that computes the difference in these values for each agent who has data in both time periods. I hope this helps better represent my issue. Thank you.
