3 of 3 people found this helpfulYou can always add a space at the end of the alias you're attempting to use, to differentiate it from any others in your workbook. That doesn't really answer your question, but gives you a workaround that may help.

Lionel Yu Oct 28, 2014 9:12 AM (in response to Matt Lutton)Thanks Matt I thought of that immediately after posting the question, haha. Just curious since I've been thinking about this recently, what is the reason(s) why you help out on the forums so much? It's people like you that make my using Tableau a much more pleasant experience, and I just wanted to know what you get out of all of this.

1 of 1 people found this helpfulWell, I get to help people, which makes me feel good. Sometimes, its a welcome distraction from my actual "work", as I can find problems that are either MORE or LESS challenging, or just different. It provides a break from "reality", in some ways.
I started because I was new to Tableau, and didn't know anything. I stayed to continue learning from some of the other regular contributors.
Today, I try to find new challenges, but I also chime in on threads where I have experienced the same type of thing, or have a comment on the topic.
Simply put, I find this to be the most active place to learn and engage with other users about Tableau.

2 of 2 people found this helpfulNote that aliasing on Measure Names only impacts the Measures in the data window. To edit the aliases of Dimensions, there is no quick/easy way to see them all, as far as I know. You can get to the area for editing from the "Data" menu
You can probably edit the XML of a TWB file as well to modify Aliases, but I've never needed to do that.

Manoj RS Jan 28, 2019 2:35 AM (in response to Grayson Deal)Hi All,
How do I add aliase to a dimension column value in Tableau 2018.2? I'm able to do for a measure column but not for dimension.
In Tableau 10.4, I used to have this option when I right click on a dimension value. Guess this has changed now.
Any help is much appreciated.
thanks,
Manoj
