      The College Board, the educational organization, is conducting a search for a Research Analyst II who will join our Research division to support statistical analysis, data manipulation, mapping, visualization, and research.

      Candidates must have US citizenship or a green card.

      This position can be based in either the College Board office in New York City, or in Newtown, PA.

      Position Summary

      A Research Analyst has responsibility for supporting and undertaking work involving the creation of statistical summaries and interactive data visualizations/tools, as well as the manipulation and disaggregation of large data sets to support statistical analysis requests. Depending on experience, this position will actively participate in research and analysis projects as a co-investigator. Work will be conducted both independently and with some guidance by a supervisor/manager.


      Statistical Analysis

      • Support and undertake statistical analyses using both internal and external data as assigned.
      • Produce tables, graphical displays, and interactive dashboards of large-scale datasets, including heat maps using Tableau, Arc-GIS, or related software.
      • Produce data aggregations (descriptive statistics and visual display of aggregated data) for internal and external consumption. Examples of such efforts are College-Bound Seniors press event and AP Report to the Nation.
      • Write intermediate-level queries/programs, and generate reports representing a variety of formats.
      • Work with a variety of data files representing item-, student-, school-, district-, institution-, state- and national-levels.
      • Work with large databases involving AP, PSAT/NMSQT, ReadiStep, and SAT data, school to district and state mappings, and NCES (Federal government data).
      • Develop procedures in the fulfillment of these analyses that may include developing stored procedures/programs and/or database solutions
      Data Manipulation
      • Organize data into a variety of formats to permit for use in specialized statistical software used for research.
      • Manipulate output from statistical analysis for use in research reports and other statistical analyses.
      • Provide personalized data representing a variety of data sources (internal and external) to research scientists. These data may include item-level, item metadata, standards, student overall test scores, school/district/institution data and related attributes.
      • Assume secondary responsibility in the fulfillment of large-scale, strategically important research and analysis projects representing collaborations with state departments of education and other organizations.
      • Support research and analysis projects as primary or secondary investigator consistent with the Research agenda. Specific role would be determined based on experience and need.
      • Help design and implement QC procedures on all statistical analyses.
      Policies and Conventions
      • Maintain a procedure for an efficient and thorough documentation of how the statistical analyses were completed and reports were generated.
      • Provide research support and guidance to Research colleagues.
      • Produce technical reports and memorandum describing procedures, data collection, and/or research results.



      Education/Experience:Bachelor’s degree required. Four to five years of demonstrated proficiency with SAS or SQL is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have 4 to 6 years of experience working with large projects involving data analysis, data visualization, statistics, and research summaries.

      Related Skills and Experience:

      • Experience using Tableau, Arc-GIS or other mapping/visualization software is strongly desired.
      • Knowledge of statistics is required.
      • Research skills and expertise in methodology are required.
      • Experience with SQL or SAS is required.
      • Ability to translate general inquiries into specific research and analysis questions and tasks.
      • Good organizational and time management skills.
      • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook), with an emphasis on MS Word and Excel.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Detail oriented.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to function in a team-oriented unit.
      • Ability to manage a variety of ongoing projects
      • Ability to travel to the New York office as needed
