# Make color range specific to each row, rather than whole table

I have a heat map and would like the color coding to "restart" on every row. The objective would be to quickly see which times of the day have the highest value vs. comparing each point (day, hour) to every other point on the graph.

For example: If 11am on Sunday has the highest value for Sunday, it would be the darkest blue. If 12pm has the highest value on Monday, it would be the same color blue as 11am on Sunday (the darkest blue).

See attached image.

Allison,

If you take the measure that you have on the color shelf, and do a quick table calculation % of Total (right click the field, select "Quick Table Calculation) using Table Across (right click the field again and select "Compute Using" --> "Table Across"), then your color will be based on a scale of 0% to 100% within the scope of the row.

Joshua

Thanks for the easy fix, Joshua!

Joshua, first how do you explain ALL that in a single, well constructed sentence? (In awe.) Are you the new Alex Kerin?!

Note to others: In his brevity Joshua didn't mention the difference between 'explicit' and 'implicit' addressing (and why this could matter, and why you should beware of the difference).

Who are you people?

• ###### 5. Re: Make color range specific to each row, rather than whole table

We are the people haunting your life, forcing you to re-engage in a forum you should have never left....

PS: And that you know more about than almost everyone I know....

Alex,

Good to see you!  Your presence is missed...

Shawn,

Thanks for the kind comments!  I'm not usually able to do that (usually I end up with multiple paragraphs and 2 or 3 screenshots to come up with an answer).  I could never hope to match Alex's consistent succinctness (though I do remember when you channeled him for a day: Channeling Alex.)  I like the new avatar, though I had grown very used to the green eye.

Joshua

Joshua, the new avatar is my tribute to an extremely gifted actor the world lost on Sunday: Philip Seymour Hoffman. So sad to see him move on so soon.

The eye will return soon.

Shawn,

I should have recognized that, but failed to make the connection right off.  It is very sad.

Just watched the Charlie Rose tribute to him. Watching the interview clips at the end was heart-wrenching. Worth watching.
