There is no listed documentation by Tableau anywhere. However, there are bits and pieces of information laying around:
Hope these help a bit!
About the data model from here:
I tried contacting the author but have not heard back. Do you know how to interpret the 2 arrows pointing from the historical_events table to the hist_users table (or why some fields in the historical_events table are emboldened?)?
The join between historical_events and hist_users is confusing. My only guess is that hist_target_user_id and/or hist_actor_user_id are used from the historical_events table for the join.
I’m pleased to announce that with Tableau Server 8.3 AND 8.2.5 (released today), all customers now have read only access to the entire postgres repository. Yes, every single table, not just the “_” views and history tables. In addition to the original “tableau” user, there is now a new “readonly” user. The “tableau” user still has the same restrictions as before.
The new “readonly” user can easily be enabled by following these instructions:
For examples of using the readonly user to connect to the workgroup database, see the following articles in the Tableau Knowledge Base: Custom Admin Views: Group Membership, Custom Admin Views: Server Access,Custom Admin Views: Server Access (2),and Custom Admin Views: Workgroup Usage
