# Hi All : Issue with value of Calculated Field

Hi All, Am new here but am using Tableau for quite some time now. I am using Tableau 8.0 and am facing an issue. I want to use the output of one calculated field as a numeric value for another calculated field. Is this possible?

It certainly is, please post a sample packaged workbook too with an explanation of what exactly you are looking for. It helps a lot providing solution to users in the forum.

Cheers !

I have some Attempts under Categories. I want to  divide all these Attempts with one value that I get from "applied" attempts.

When you write the post, click on the "Use Advanced editor" on the top right corner. Then you can attach using the "Attach" icon in the bottom right of the editor.

Thank you Manas.

Basically am doing this exercise to get the percentage of Approved and Decline based on the number of Applied.

How are you looking at to get your data arranged? Date wise and the corresponding percentages of applied and declined?

There is a "Total" in the Flow dimension as well, what does it mean?

I am not actually worried about Total Value... The main concern is thaat i should get the percentage of Approved & Decline out of Applied.

Your data structure can do a bit of jiggling around. You should have Applied, Declined and Approved in columns than in rows. That would make it easier to calculate. In the meantime, I will try working with the current data structure..

I have made certain changes to your data structure. You might need to prepare your data before you import it in Tableau, makes it way easier working later.

I have worked with when these are in different columns... But now the data is made in this way because i want it all in one column. Looking forward if you could get some way out.

I am unable to open the file in 8.0. Have you worked with 8.1 ?

• ###### 11. Re: Hi All : Issue with value of Calculated Field

Yes, I am currently working with 8.1. If you have a license for 8.0 then you should upgrade to the new version. It's awesome!

Cheers !

Hi,

I have created a new field called "Mock" and then filtered out some dimensions from "Flow". Then I did a row percentage calculation. I have sorted them on the basis of dates.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Cheers !

Hi Manas,

What you have done is taking the percent of Approved and Declined based on the Total (Approved + Declined).

But in real time I have more such categories, and unlike here it wont sum up to the Applied population.

Therefore, I want a way where i could divide all the attempts in various categories to be divided by one category(which here is  'Applied' ).

Regards,

Ajay

Hi Ajay,

I have modified the sheet again using the LOOKUP function, and computed it using Flow. I have hidden the Flow dimensions to give it a cleaner look as well. I have arranged it according to the dates.

Hope this helps. Cheers !
