Dan, thank you so much for the reply. Could you please answer couple of my questions below:
- When will Tableau server 8.1 be released?
- If I am using Tableau desktop 8.0, can I publish on Tableau server 8.1?
Thanks a ton in anticipation.
Thanks for your reply. This was really helpful. Could you please answer the below questions?
- How do I get my Tableau server upgraded to 8.1? Is it free or I will require a paid license?
- If I get the Tableau server upgraded to 8.1, will I still be able to publish using Tableau Desktop 8.0?
8.1 is a free upgrade if you have a Server maintenance contract (and similarly Desktop 8.1 if you have a Desktop maintenance contract). Upgrading is very easy - search the knowledge base. You can publish 8.0 workbooks to 8.1 server but not visa versa. If you use 8.0 Desktop you will not be able to use the calendar controls. You need to upgrade your workbooks in Tableau Desktop 8.1 and add calendar control functionality then publish to Server.
As discussed in the thread above, I upgraded my Tableau desktop to version 8.1
I also got the Tableau server upgraded to the latest version Tableau server 8.1.3
Now, the calendar in date parameter control is visible on the server side as well. The issue is - "the dates in the calendar are not clickable". In other words, nothing happens when one clicks the dates in the calendars on the server side.
On my Tableau desktop, the dashboard responds when one clicks the calendar dates but as explained above - graphs don't change and nothing happens upon clicking dates when it is published on the server 8.1.3

Am I correct in assuming that you are using IE 8? If so, there is a known issue with the calendar controls and IE 8 not working. If you try a different browser, the issue should go away. If it doesn't, you should try to upgrade to 8.1.4. If the issue still persists at that point, the best course of action would be to open a support case by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
