Don't have a lot of time to provide a detailed response, but suspect this might help--you can use table calcs to "hide" data but not really filter it out.
I definitely think this is what I need, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I even watched a TCC12 session video, but of course I’m not able to get it to apply to my situation.
Do you know how this works when you have several row dimensions?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean or what your scenario looks like--if you post a packaged workbook with some sample data that demonstrates what you want to accomplish, someone can help you set it up. Without a workbook, you may not find the answer you are looking for because most folks will skim right over a text description with no workbook. If you are stuck, and need help quickly, that is your best bet.
I'm attaching my sample workbook.
The first tab shows the sample data.
2nd tab applies my calculated field to my data.
The calculated field determines if a relationship E - Exists or is A - Available. If there are records for that cell, an E will display. A relationship is said to be available if the Agent already has an E for that COMPANY (agent has relationship with that company for at least 1 LOB) and that the company already has an E for that LOB. (meaning that company deals with that LOB (line of business).
My real data has over 20,000 agents. I want to be able to filter for a specific agent. However when doing so as seen in tab 3 - Filter error, the calculated field is no longer accurate as the basis for the calculated value now only depends on what is shown/filtered not the entire data set.
So when filtering by Agent = George I'd like to see exactly what I do in Tab 2, but as you can see in Tab 3 that is not currently the case.
I've watched the TCC12 session that goes along with this: A Jedi (Filter and Table Calc) Trick | Tableau Software and understand the principles but can't seem to apply it to my situation correctly.
Any help or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
