online.tableusoftware.com is still in 8.0 and you cannot publish the 8.1 workbook to it.
All Tableau 8.1 products are still in beta, soon it will be released officially.
You can track the official product releases here .. Release Notes | Tableau Software
Looking at the Release Notes doesnt list T OnLine Presume there will be a lag time from when 8.1 Desktop and Server 8.1 were released on 20 Nov till T OnLine will be compatible with T Desktop 8.1- any idea of a time frame given I have set up a lot of work under 8.1 beta and will be authenicating with installed 8.1
I suspect Steven is correct. 8.1 was officially released hours ago, so likely Tableau Online will be upgrading today or in the very near future.
To get the T Online upgrade schedule, we would likely need someone from Tableau Online to jump in or perhaps someone could call Tableau when they open up then report back.
Tableau Online will not be upgraded until early December to give customers time to get the new software and prepare their dashboards. Until then you will have to use Tableau Desktop 8.0 to publish to Tableau Online. If you need to get 8.0, you can download it from this page:
It is also linked from the Tableau Desktop download page, but that page will automatically start a download of Tableau Desktop 8.1 which you should cancel if you are trying to get 8.0.
Apologies for the confusion. Please write back here or contact me at efields at tableausoftware.com with any further issues.
The upgrade of Tableau Online to version 8.1 is scheduled for this Saturday, December 7, from 9 a.am. to 2 p.m. Pacific time.
Until that time, you will still need to use Tableau Desktop 8.0 to publish.
After Dec. 7, you will need to use Tableau Desktop 8.1 to publish. You can download that here.
