Heya David -
You can find references to this in 8.1 help, which will be available when the product officially releases to the web.
That being said, your current architecture won't change much. In 8.1, you'll be able to run as many Tableau Gateway services as you want -- gateway processes will continue to route traffic to the appropriate services on the Primary and/or Workers.
Your hardware load balancer will simply round robin incoming requests to any of the X gateways you have running, and we take if from there. So the real (minor) change may be that rather than having (for example):
- Primary & Gateway
- (Maybe a backup gateway machine, too)
- Primary & Gateway1
- Worker 1 & Gateway2
- Worker 2 & Gateway 3
Can't really tell you much more at this point except "don't worry" - this'll be a low effort/risk thing on the Tableau side.
Hope this helps a little?
Hi Russell, thanks for the information - guess I'll have to wait for the release to get the full details :-). It's great that hw load balancing is being included in the server edition, it makes for a much more scalable product.
Perfect ☺ Didn’t know if we’d officially announced this stuff ☺
Hi Cristian, we're not a greenfield site, it will have to be Foundry switches. So configuring the appropriate server health-check in the VIP will be part of our migration to 8.1.
