Yes, Tableau Server should be attempting to connect with the embedded credentials. However not all ODBC data sources require credentials, so Tableau may be first attempting to connect without credentials in order to determine if they are required (but I'm not entirely certain about this). If the ODBC driver does not properly report an ODBC error with SQLSTATE set to '28000' (invalid authentication mode), then Tableau does not know that the reason for connection failure was due to bad or missing credentials.
Can you add that error mechanism to your ODBC driver and reply here if it addresses your problem? If it does not, please contact our Support team so we may collect logs and investigate this in more detail. Mention that I am interested in taking a look once the support team has collected your details.
I hope this helps,
Thank you for your precious solutions, i have managed to make it work as far as i can see right now from tableau desktop, since now it prompts the user for password and username. I didn't know of this because when the driver just returned sql_success tableau desktop would let the user fill in the credentials from the initial window and tried to reconnect again.
I can't thank you enough,
