How would you build a background map with designated points?

    Tyler Sellers

I have an image of a webpage and I want to make that my background imagine/map. I have one dimension (Link Name) and one Measure (Clicks).

The goal is to assign each value within the Link Name to a point on the background image. An example would be "Login" from the Link Name dimension would be in the top right of the time and "Support" from the Link Name dimension would be in the bottom center of the image.

      Is this possible?

      Thanks!

          Tyler,

You'll probably want to create a couple of calculated fields for X/Y coordinates that look something like this:

          X:

          CASE [Link Name]

          WHEN "Login" THEN 100

          WHEN "Support" THEN 50

          END

          Y:

          CASE [Link Name]

          WHEN "Login" THEN 100

          WHEN "Support" THEN 50

          END

The use your image as a background image (from the menu "Map" --> "Background Image" and use the X and Y fields to set the boundaries.  Then put X and Y on Rows and Columns and you can start to define marks on top of your image.  Play around with shape, size, color (and transparency) to get the desired effect.

If you have additional specific questions, please supply some sample data and the image.

          Regards,

          Joshua
