using excel datasrouce, is there a way to stop tableau from ignoring data in columns where the first rows are blank?

I am using an excel worksheet as a datasource, where some metric columns are blank for the first 2000 rows, and then has data for the next 12000 rows.

Tableau seems to be ignoring all of the data in the column.

If I manually type zeros into the columns in the first row I seem to get by OK.

Is there a way I can override the data connection to not ignore without having to input zeros in my data set every time?

Note: I have little control over the order of the rows, as when I reorder them, a different column then has blank values at the beginning.
