Hey Alice -
The easiest way to figure this out is to run your report in Tableau Server 8 and then use the "Share" button. The string you find in the "Email" box is what you need. Compare it to the string that isn't working for you.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the quick reply! I've tried what you suggested but it didn't work.
Wow! So let me make sure I understand - when you copy the link from the "email" box and paste it into the browser, it doesn't work?
Can you do me a favor?
1. Take a screen shot of the browser "address" area while showing the report in Tableau Server and post it here:
2. Take a screenshot of the "Share | Email" link for the same report and post it:
...if the email link is too long, just paste the string in directly.
Something very interesting is going on here!
Yes, I can (I masked the server name).
I have also tried out the following four types of scenarios:
- If I change the URL in the edit pages (either an existing page or new page I just created) to an existing worksheet that is part of the same workbook, I am able to see the published pages.
- If I change the URL in the edit pages to a worksheet (either an existing worksheet that shows as a published page elsewhere or new worksheet I just published) that is NOT part of the same workbook, the "resource not found" message shows up.
Before that, I also tried publishing various worksheets which differ in their data sources (including the sample Tableau Superstore ones), but all attempts resulted in the same "resource not found" message, so I don't believe it has to do with that.
At this point, I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall Tableau 8.0 Desktop to see if it resolves anything, as I used to not have problems using Tableau 7.0.
Scenario (3) where I change the URL in the edit pages to an existing worksheet that works elsewhere can be further subdivided into two branches. It seems like only workbooks that were published to the server after some date will give this "resource not found" message, while ones published to the server before are working fine. We upgraded our server to 8.0 last week - would you or anyone else think that this could be the reason?
Hey Alice -
Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by "If I change the URL in the edit pages (either an existing page or new page I just created)".
What is the "edit pages"? Do you mean you're changing the URL in the "address" box of your browser (the very first screen shot I posted)?
Just to be 100% sure, I'm with you: When you do the following, you get the resource not found error?
- After rendering Sheet1 in workbook test, copy the string http://server/views/test/Sheet1?:embed=y out of the Email box
- Logoff of Tableau Server
- Close the browser
- Open a new browser, paste the string into the address area, hit ENTER
- Login to Tableau when prompted
If your answer is "yes", then something is wrong. Migration could be part of it, but I'm not positive. There are a few other things we could try, but they would involve having you get into your system tables to show me values that are stored there and/or you gathering and posting logs - both of these tasks you probably don't want to do "in public".
I'd suggest you open up a support case at this point so you can handle things in private. The folks in support might already be familiar with this issue. I did a quick check and didn't see anything internally, but they deal with stuff like this every day so know more about it.
I'd love to know what was actually wrong - this is very odd. Let me know when you have a case open and I'll follow along for the ride on my side. Sorry
The edit page is in Page / Tab of the Dashboard Admin.
I have submitted a support case.
Update: Whew, issue has been identified and resolved.
Much thanks & regards for all your help.
Could you please share the solution with us? We see this error "Resource not found. Please check the URL and try again." while publishing a workbook to the server. Your inputs will be appreciated.
I am also experiencing this issue. If anyone has an update or solution, can you please share it with us?
bump! Does anyone have a resolution for this issue? My problem started when I upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1.
I get this exact error when using IE browser...funny thing is that the embed works when using a different browser like Chrome, but for a colleague of mine using Chrome it didn't work so it's not consistent. Does anyone have any idea why embeding a link like this give the OP's error message???
Kindly let us know what was the solution to this issue.
