I am getting the same even after I installed mysql-connector-odbc-5.2.5-win32.msi I am running Tableau Desktop 8.
Was having the same issue. Try restarting Tableau Server once you have mysql driver installed. Seems to have solved the problem for me.
I got this in Desktop version on Windows 7. Perhaps, I need to reboot my Windows. I will try and report later.
A colleague and I spent almost 2 hours on this today. We downloaded Tableau 8.01 and the 32 bit MySQL odbc drivers (5.2.5). It turns out MySQL started packaging together the Unicode (which we want) and ANSI (which we dont want) drivers. The message is coming from Tableau trying to use the ANSI driver.
As of now, you need to edit the registry to fix this, if you dont know how DO NOT attempt this on your own. Its also a good idea to make a backup of your registry in case.
And remove the key and sub keys in that pertain to the ANSI version of the MySQL ODBC driver ONLY.
What you say makes sense, and I did as you instructed. Nonetheless, I still receive the same error message, unchanged from before (the same that everyone else is seeing).
Is anyone else not having success with the Registry Edit fix?
When you open Tableau, try to connect to "Other Data Sources" and select "driver" and in the drop down list what do you see for the mysql drivers?
I was having the same issue and couldn't fixed by editing the registry. I finally fixed it uninstalling the mysql drivers, restarted (just to make sure everything was gone) and reinstalling. Make sure that you are installing the UNICODE version of the driver. For some reason the one I had was called mysql-connector-odbc-5.2.5a that's the ANSI driver and didn't include the UNICODE.
The one that worked for me is mysql-connector-odbc-5.2.5-win32.msi
Instead of the latest version 5.2.5, I installed this:
And my problem is solved. I think Tableau drivers page should mention this for MySQL.
I'm running mysql in a Linux machine rhel6.So what version of unicode driver can i get.
