I think with the use of dashboard you can achieve this. Create this graph in different sheets & then put in dashboard with some customization will help you.
thanks..but i wanted a more easier approach! I think tableau can easily include this to their Chart options
Thanks for the suggestion! i have already created the post in the Ideas section. Plz vote it up
I have utilised your example to create charts (I have voted for the idea stated as well), but I have been trying to investigate how to use a similar method to create a table version.
My example is a Profit & Loss statement for finance having categories down the middle and analysis either side....
Period Total Budget Prior Period Categories Period YTD Budget YTD Prior YTD
£100 £120 £140 Direct Costs £1000 £800 £900
£100 £120 £140 Operating Costs £1000 £800 £900
£100 £120 £140 Revenue £1000 £800 £900
I attempted to apply the same logic to a table, but quickly saw that you can not really effect the Text label of min(one). I then tried to do it in a chart and instead of displaying bars in your example, I show the text of the actual value. I have set the axis ranges to extreme values so that the values are aligned.
Heres what I have so far (values are blacked out)...
This isn't really acceptable as it is, so I feel I'm fighting to get something that just can't be achieved until Tableau implement the concept of a butterfly chart/table. Tables being an important part of this feature as well as charts.
Recently I'm trying to migrate our P&L finance report in Excel format to Tableau. Our PL finance report format is exactly the same as your PL format with categories in the middle and analysis such as Jan 2018 ACT, Jan 2018 PLAN, 2017 ACT, %vPLAN, YTD 2018 ACT, YTD 2018 PLAN etc. I know how to do the butterfly chart. I want to know how you group those measure names like your period total, budget, Prior budget, Period YTD, Budget YTD, Prior YTD on both sides? Could you show me how you figure out how to do these? It'll be really appreciated if you could provide me a sample workbook of yours with your Tableau PL finance report. Thanks in advance.
