Hi Anirudh -
FileMaker is not one of our "out of the box" data sources - so you'll need to connect to it as a Generic ODBC data source with an ODBC driver for FileMaker. I assume the FileMaker people include such a driver with their product?
Hope this helps!
Can you please provide me some documents or some study materials which will help me to do same.??
Or same halp from you...???
- Go to the FileMaker website and find information about their ODBC driver and how to set it up
- Once set up, read these:
I have used FileMaker ODBC driver for the same. When I connect to tableau from ODBC, it shows my DSN in Dropdown field. when I select it, It asks Username and Password for database. When I give it and it is connecting . But now when I select any table it shows error--
"An error occurred while communicating with the data source.
Unable to connect the server. Check that is running and that you have access
privileges to the requested database."
Please Let me what and why it Occurred and how to solve it ?
I don't have any personal experience with FileMaker or their ODBC driver, so can't tell you way this is happening.
Let's forget about Tableau for the moment, though. In the ODBC Administrator (ODBCAD32.exe), you can see the DSN you created. Often the driver allows you to actually "test" connectivity to the specific data source you've connected to. Look for some sort of "Test Connection" button and use it.
Also, see if you can use the same DSN to import data into Excel, or MS Access - this will help you understand if the problem is with Tableau, or the connection itself. If you can't import data with Excel or Access either, the problem is with the driver or the way you've configured it.
I would also recommend you track down some FileMaker forums and ask your ODBC configuration questions there - you'll have an audience with some expertise on the subject.
Did you ever figure this one out Anirudh? I have the same need to connect to FileMaker 12.
I am trying to connect to filemaker from tableau but its giving me some strange syntax error. I have posted in Tableau forum.
Please let me know if anybody have any suggestions.
