What about using the SQL from .iqy and directly access whatever source .iqy is accessing, via custom SQL in Tableau connection?
Dimitri - I understand how to define a custom data source using SQL within Tableau; however, an IQY file does not contain SQL, it contains a link to a web based table of data. Simply put, the IQY file contains a URL, but for details of the IQY file contents see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157482
Specifically in my example, my IQY defines an Oracle BI report and the link is as follows:
I see. Considering that .iqy is just a text file with URL details, I assume that Excel has all the nuts & bolts either bult in or uses separate Windows/Office components to parse this file and connect to the data behind the URL.
Tableau doesn't have these nuts & bolts, i.e. parser, driver, etc., so I don't think it is possible.
Just to bring this back up, is this something that can be done now or is being worked on?
