I have a large table of data with names, ranks, gender and salaries. Salary is a measure. I just want to be able to filter on rank and gender and come up with simple tables consisting of names and salaries for various combinations of rank and gender. Tableau insists on doing fancy things with salary -- summing it, showing it as a column, etc. I just want the salary in the table as a number. (Essentially, I want to force Tableau to act like Excel with filters on.) Help
Assuming that each name has just one salary, you can 'dis-aggregate' the salary data by adding the name dimension to rows and the salary measure to Label.
Each name will show Sum(Salary) but since this is just their single salary you now have the format you need. Add the other dimensions as quick filters and you have your desired report.
