I am new to Tableau and I am also looking for the same answer. I found an example here - http://www.alansmitheepresents.org/2011/03/changing-viz-types-with-dashboard.html. But I am not able to implement 1) Dashboard container objects which auto-shrink and auto-grow as needed.
Help is appreciated very much!

Hi Joseph, Priyanka
In order for the sheets to auto-resize, they must:
- Placed within a Dashboard Container
- Have their titles hidden
- Not have a fixed height/width (dependent on the container used)
Sometimes containers can auto fix themselves to a certain size depending on what actions have taken place. A container with a fixed size is denoted by a pin on the top left of the container, and can be removed by clicking on it.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, Rey! It worked!!
Is there a way to dynamically resize the container, as opposed to the worksheet? Useful when using a tabular report with a filter that returns very different numbers of rows...
Is there a way to avoid the automatic dynamic re-sizing of worksheets inside a dashboard when a dashboard size changes?
I can't see the PIN highlighted in the image by Rey Sanchez.
Hi Rey, thanks for that explanation. Is there a way to set a minimum height? I have two worksheets inside a vertical container with dynamic sizing. An action filter on sheet 1 (a viz) populates sheet 2 (a table), so sheet 2 disappears whenever not in use.
However when sheet 2 is too tall then sheet 1 becomes incredibly tiny and it is hard to click out of your selection. Is there any workaround to establish a minimum height, so worksheet 1 becomes dynamic within a range?
I've tried adding a blank worksheet next to sheet 1 and giving it a fixed height, but no luck the dynamic container it is in seems to overrule the fixed height of the sheet inside it.
Let me know if you have any ideas!
Were you able to fix your issue? I am having the same problem as well.
I have two sheets - a map and a detail sheet. The detail sheet comes up when a filter is clicked, otherwise the map covers the whole dashboard. Unfortunately the detail comes up quite high on the page when the filter is clicked.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
No, I didn't receive an answer, I suspect this use case is not supported. If you have better luck do share!
okay thanks. I will!
Is it possible to keep a container a fixed size which contains filters, and just have a scroll bar implements so the filters dont squish together?

Thanks for the clarifications! I came here because I was having trouble with automatic resizing, and just figured out that another requirement is that the sheets involved have to have a pill on the columns or rows. I was trying to add a worksheet with dynamic text, but didn't have anything on the rows/columns, just on text. As soon as I added a "blank" field to rows and hid it, the automatic resizing worked.
Never knew this - helpful, thanks!!
One key thing not mentioned above: The sheets need to be placed inside a vertical layout container, not just any container.
I am filtering on a map and when I have just one geography, the graph is too wide, but if I make the container smaller, the graphs are too squished with three geographies.
I put the graph into a horizontal layout container and added blank objects to either side. This makes the graph resize somewhat, but is there a way to customize how much the blank objects are squished, so that when there are three graphs they take up (almost) the whole layout container, but with one graph it isn't too wide?
