I do have similar issue. System does connect to Cloudera Hadoop cluster and gets meta data from table in Hive. I can write qweries on on hive through CLI bet as I do something with Tableu I receive:
Query returned non-zero code: 1, cause: FAILED: Execution Error, return code 1 from org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.exec.MapRedTask
In a need for urgent consultation
As support did not respond anything, after network sniffing and other problem hypothesis finally figured out the couse of a problem myself:
This error is returned straight from Hive in the cluster. And has nothing to do with Tableau. Thus, inspecting hive-server logs helped to find the source of the problem
tail -n50 /var/log/hive/hive-server.log
In my case, as actualy in most cases configuring Hadoop, there were an issue with permissions. Hive user did not have access rights to /user/hive an thus queries from Tableau were not propagated further into JobTracker.
