Problem Using Extracts and live data

    David Obrien

      We're running  Tableau 6.1

I have a Dashboard with views sourced from an extract based on an Oracle Database and a Live Excel spreadsheet.

After the workbook is published (with the Include External File option unchecked) to the server, it fails to pick up any changes to the data in the spreadsheet.

I presume because I'm publishing a workbook containing an extract that it gets marked as a packaged workbook and therefore  takes a copy of the spreadsheet into the workbook.

Here's what I've discovered so far:

When I publish the workbook with both a live Oracle Database and a Live Excel spreadsheet, the problem goes away and all changes, to the spreadsheet, are reflected in the vizes.

When I publish the workbook with an extract based on an Oracle Database and a live Oracle Database , the problem goes away and all changes, to the live database, are reflected in the vizes.

Is there a workaround that will allow me to use an extract based on an Oracle Database and a Live Excel spreadsheet or is the a "feature" of Tableau ?

      Thanks,

      Dave
