What is the issue you are having that you're unable to link the two tables? Have you seen the following KB articles on blending data?
Hope these helps!
Thanks Tracy. I went through the articles, however still not getting the desired output. Attaching two files ... if you can give a look and help me out.
1. spreadsheet: Tabs -- Item and Period are input tabs; I would like to see the result as in "desired output" tab after joining of two tables in tableau.
2. Screenshot of the current method I am trying to join the data. Note on the left dimension panel, there is no Link symbol.
I have attached a workbook with the desired output. Connect to Period first, then add the Item table, joining the two tables on Item with a left join type.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Tracy - that was helpful.
Have two additional queries:
1. I have a dataset where field names are populated as <Company A>&" Account"; <Company B>&" Account"
Hence my Tableau for first connection say shows this as IBM Account, Apple Account.
The base dataset may undergo refresh later on to have same fields as SAP Account, IDEA Account. How can I still retain tableau front end with this change without replacing field names every time.
2. I would like to create something called PSI chart in tableau. This chart shows all three values in $ over a time horizon. However the three measures are all different chart type (Area, Bar, Line) using same Axis. By using dual axis i can recreate only upto two charts with same axis... is there any possibility of doing for all three different charts using same axis ?
Looking forward to some help.
