It sounds like you want the user to be able to select the metric they want to see on a dashboard. That's simple enough using a parameter and a calculated field as described in this blog post: http://reports4u.co.uk/?p=289
There's a chance I've misinterpreted your question and you're actually wondering if there's a way for the user to choose to see either a graph or a table on a dashboard. This is also possible using more or less the same technique, just modifield slightly.
The question is if there's a way for the user to choose to see either a graph or a table on a dashboard. Basically toggle between the views - table view to graph view. We give the option and its up to the user to select what he/she would like to see
I've seen this done, maybe on a blog, maybe here on the forums, I can't remember. I think they used an action filter to toggle (hide/unhide) worksheets. Let me see if I can find it, or maybe some else knows where that workbook is?
Thats awesome news, I have tried the net, etc...that news you have is really encouraging...should be helpful
Here's a nice instruction set:
The key bit is using the layout container, so when the dashboard is filtered out by the parameter it is reduced to only a few (about 20) pixels.
Thanks Jonathan, I looked for that off and on the whole morning. Joe mentioned last week he has real troubles finding stuff on the new forums, I agree. You got tricks?
@Shawn - I totally agree that I have problems finding stuff on the forums. And even then sometimes attachments are lots and/or screenshots don't show up. What I've done since I started using Tableau is keep a doc with snippets of notes, links to posts and knowledgebase articles, etc. If I'm answering a post with a link it's probably coming out of that file. Someday this fall I'll clean it up and share it.
