Custom SQL with Drop Table, Create Table and Insert Into

    Andrew Peterson

I have a custom SQL query that needs to create tables as it is too big to run alone.  My code works everywhere else but Tableau.  I was wondering if this is a limitation that Tableau is not able to pass this along or if I have an issue with the code itself.

I need it to Drop the old table, create a new table and then add to the new table data over a series of data pulls.

      Any guidance would be helpful.

          Hi Andrew,

Custom SQL connections in Tableau must only contain a single SQL query that returns a result set. The kind of operation you wish to use is enabled for a few data sources, and is called Initial SQL, but we have not exposed this functionality for all data sources yet. Please consult the documentation to see if your data sources is one of those that is supported. I cannot comment on a roadmap or timeframe for adding this functionality to other data sources.
