In Excel Pivot Table you can change the view to a compact view where the children items would show up below and slightly off-set from the parent. In Tableau it seems to only give you an option to have the children next to the parents. This takes up valuable real estate. Is there any way to get an excel like compact view when using hierarchy to create a drill down?
By adding null values to the data in the data source, then creating a calculated field similar to the following could get you the desired outcome as a workaround:
ifnull([Child field], ' ')
However, this probably is not ideal. This might be a good one to add to the Ideas section!
