Brajesh, nope currently no way. Also no way to get them to display as two or more columns. I don't think I've seen this in the Ideas section, so you might want to post it there. I'd definitely vote for it.
Thanks Shawn. I have seen this feature in some other tool and it is very useful when we design dashboard. I am new to Tableau so not sure what Ideas is all about but I will surely put it there. Thanks for your help.
I was searching for a way to display filter values horizontally and came across this thread.
I still can't find a way to do it.
So I tried making my own. What I did was create a sheet (in my case it is month value) and displayed a dummy value with a shape. (You can use a solid circle, filled circle, whatever.) I colored mine grey to approximate Tableau's filters.
From here, I intend to use a SELECT action filter to control the actual data sheets.
I can already see that this will only work for a single-select filter. (Well, maybe not, since a user maybe could ctrl-click multiple values...) I need my user to select only one at a time.
Anyway, this is a start toward making something like this work. I'll follow up with success/fail as I take this to the next step.

Meh. After starting to build this, the user decided he wanted the filter in a drop-down format after all. I'm still convinced the horizontal sheet would have worked, though its applicability would be limited.
