We are pulling a tableau view of about 200,000 rows or so (direct link to SQL server), and then attaching an external spreadsheet live to the view via uniqueID. We want to use the spreadsheet of IDs as an exclude filter against the 200k rows. There are about 70k IDs to be filtered out. When we attempt to "ok" the exclude, Tableau will spin for ~ 14minutes and then will error out with "Query too complex"
When I look at the query, it is in fact, GINORMOUS.
Is there another/better way to do this?
Heya Steven --
The Jet (MS Access) database engine is responsible for doing live connections to Access, Excel! And Text Files for us -- Chances are it just can't handle the big query. Try making an extract out of your Excel workbook (instead of a live connection) and I suspect all will be well.
Let us k ow what happens!
