how to get Tableau to recognize date

    guest.user

I have two dimensions in my data. A month dimension (where the input is 1, 2, 3, etc) and year dimension. However, when I bring them into Tableau, they are not recognized as dates. How do I get them to be dates that are recognizable and get them in the format of mm/yyyy?

      Thanks!

          Hi,

To get Tableau to recognize the two dimensions as a date field, a calculated field will need to be created similar to the following:

          date(str([Month]) + '/1/' +str([Year]))

Then, place this on the view. To get the output to be mm/yyyy, if using 7.0 simply right click on the date field on the view, and select More-->Custom-->Month/Year.

          Hope this helps!
