You can try faking these kind of charts in Tableau using available chart types, but as far as I know you cannot add your own custom chart type to be available in Tableau's chart library, and speedos etc. are excluded for good reason.
Why would you want to do something like a speedometer or a gauge chart ? They have no functional value at all
hi, i am new to this BI field and currently working on tableau . it would be of great help for me if you give some cons about customised charts !!!!
There is nothing wrong with customised charts, but some types of charts are bad for most applications. Tableau is trying to make chart selecting easy by only including "good" charts. Other BI tools try to outdo each other on the variety of charts they have, disregarding any research on their effectiveness.
You can learn more about why gauge charts are bad here: http://www.perceptualedge.com/search.php?query=gauge&submit=Go
Thanks Dimitri and I am sorry for such a delayed reply .
The link really helped me understanding the problems in using gauge chart !!!!!
I would request you suggest me a link specifying the various differences between Tableau and QlikView it would really helpful for me understanding the tool better.
I need Gauge chart in tableau. Suppose if I have a value say [Profit %]=33 then my chart should range between -500 to 500. That is percentage would vary between -500 to +500. Using the value 33 i need to find x and y coordinates. How do I achieve this. Basically the coordinates are identified dynamically.
Also if possible -500 and 500 extreme values can be dynamic.
