Connection issue: Tableau Server on AWS and DB on SQL Azure

    thierryjakircevic

      Hi,

I have a database hosted on SQL Azure. I can connect to it just fine with Tableau Desktop after having created a custom ODBC connection on my client machine (this was done because I could not change the "default" database by using the connection wizard built in Tableau Desktop).

I have recently installed Tableau Server in a Amazon Web Services EC2 instance.

I can successfully publish workbooks to TS but I can't get my data connection right with Azure on the server (once again: works just fine in TD).

The mesage error I get when trying to refresh the extract is: "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Unable to connect using the DSN named "SQL Azure - BSAP". Check that the DSN exists and is a valid connection.

(Note: I did create the very same ODBC connection on my server instance via Remote Desktop Connection)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

      Thierry
