Calculated field off of a parameter linked to a dimension

I am new to parameters and I have been trying to figure out how to make them work.  What I would like to do is create a Parameter that off of a dimension and then do a calculation for that selected dimension only and have it be a measure.  For example  [Profit] can be a measure by itself.  I would then like to create a calculated field that says, sum [profit] if [product] = [Paramter Value].  It would display only the summation of the value selected in the parameter.  I've been stymied trying to do this.  Any thoughts?

For those of you coming here and looking for an answer, this is what I and a colleague figured out.  Create the filter using an IIF statement.  For example IIF( [Dimension] = [Parameter],[Measure],NULL)  This seem has worked well.  You can then create your calulation on the variable you created in the IIF statement and you don't get any error messages saying you can't mix AGG and NON-AGG data.
