I hope you've been able to find alternatives since you posted, but in case you havent...
I noticed there's a new extension that enables write-back to databases and has more options to customize it (but I believe requires a separate license): https://extensiongallery.tableau.com/products/48.
If you'd like to setup something yourself and you can write-back to a database like MySQL, I'd encourage you to take a look at the video on this link: https://tableaufans.com/extension-api/tableau-extension-api-write-back/. Timo built the extension and made the code available on github (GitHub - tableau/extensions-api: Extensions API sample code and developer docs), but he also wrote a step-by-step guide on how to set it up and debug it (if necessary): tableaufans.com » Tableau Extension API – Write Back – Updated Source Code for Tableau 2018.2

Thank you for responding! I've since found a work-around to incorporate into my solution but I will definitely check out your suggestion above. I am sure that I'll be able to use it in the future.
