# Likert Scales and Values

Hi all,

I am new to Tableau and have what is probably a simple question.  Let's say I have 2 variables, Gender and Satisfaction.  The satisfaction question has 5 points, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Average, Poor.  I want to assign these points values, 100, 75, 50, 25 and 0.  I then simply want to crosstab Gender vs Satisfaction to get an average for each Gender based on the assigned values.

Does this require a calculation?  Thanks.

Jay

first welcome to tableau and the forum

we like to see you twbx workbook with data - to provide a specific solution

will you need calculations - yes

if you are going to be doing survey analysis google Steve Wexler  and Tableau   - he is a zen master and is the go to when it comes to survey data analysis

Thanks Jim.  Here is a simple example of what I am aiming for.

I think I got it:

CASE [satisfaction]

WHEN "excellent" THEN 100

WHEN "very good" THEN 75

WHEN "good" THEN 50

WHEN "average" THEN 25

WHEN "0" THEN 0

END
