# How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

Hi All,

I made a percentage bar chart colored by different application, for example, application A 10%, B 20%, C 30% and so on. So the total percentage is 100%, but I don't want to show this "100%". Instead, I'd like to show the absolute number on top of the percentage bar, for example total sales, shown as below chart. How should I realize this? Thank you very much! • ###### 1. How are you showing the 100% at the moment ?

• ###### 2. Re: How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

I usually show total by adding reference line.

• ###### 3. Re: How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

On the reference line you might have to use an LOD

I usually use the dual-axis method so it's a lot easier to change the total so it's showing the total number rather than a percentage.

What is an "LOD"? I was trying to use the dual-axis and set the scale logarithmic and axis range starting from some value large enough so that the totals don't position according to their real value, as shown in below image. I mean I am trying to align totals on same line, but still they can't be aligned perfectly.

So I am wondering if there is any better method. • ###### 5. Re: How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

Can you attach a workbook with a reference line and I'll show you how to do both ways

• ###### 6. Re: How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

Hi Chris,

Please see the attachment. I added the reference line showing 100%, and dual axis showing the total number. Thank you very much for your help.

I don't think it's going to work with a reference line, here's how to make it work with dual-axis: Make sure both axes are the table calc but the label changes to be SUM([Quantity])

Hi Chris, thank you so much for the solution!! Changing the label to be SUM([Quantity]) does work!

One more thing, how did you align the numbers above the bar chart? I could only put them under the bar.. • ###### 9. Re: How to add total number on top of percentage bar chart

Synchronise the axes on, it looks like they're not sync'd.
