# Stop running total line in the last data point. It continues as a flat line...

How can I stop the running total line at the last data point? I don't need that flat line after week 7.

Try a calc like this one:

IF NOT ISNULL(SUM([Value]))

THEN RUNNING_SUM(SUM([Value]))

END

Hello is there a way to fill the gap with running sum function  when there are null values in some alternative weeks, prior to the last week with values point?

For instance if week 4 is null but week 5 and week 3 had a value. the running sum doesn't show anything in those cases.

I have tried something like this,

IIF(SUM(value)<>0,RUNNING_SUM(SUM(Value)), lookup(RUNNING_SUM(SUM(Value)),-1))

However, i don't make it to stop in the last point which also fulfills the condition of being null.

did you ever figure out how to do this?

the null values i have in the middle of the data set aren't included in the running total

Try altering my formula by using the ZN function to turn those null values into zero values. Like this:

IF NOT ISNULL(SUM(ZN([Value])))

THEN RUNNING_SUM(SUM([Value]))

END

I am not sure if that is what you are looking for, but based on my (very simplistic test) it came out like this:

The top graph is my original formula, which leaves space in the lines. The bottom is the adjusted formula.

@RYAN SHIRLEY How to fill the data when we have missing dates and want to avoid zero line? I have two series line chart showing running total for prior year same month vs current year month to date. see posted here https://community.tableau.com/thread/331873
